The Holden Commodore is a big rear-wheel drive sedan built by Holden in Australia between 1978 and 1988 (first generation), between 1988 and 1997 (second generation), between 1997 and 2006 (third generation) and between 2006 and 2017 (fourth generation).
The first generation Holden Commodore (VB, VC, VH, VK, VL) was based on the Opel Rekord E but some significant modifications were required to accomodate the bigger engines and to make it more reliable on the harsh road conditions in Australia. As the Opel Rekord E itself was also the base for the Opel Senator A you will recognize some parts of the equipment that were also used in the Bitter SC.
The second generation Holden Commodore (VN, VP, VR, VS) was based on the Opel Omega A and Opel Senator B. The third generation Holden Commodore (VT, VX, VY, VZ) was based on the Opel Omega B.
The fourth generation Holden Commodore (VE, VF) was completely developed by Holden as Opel did no longer have a big rear-wheel drive car to be used as donor. In 2010 the Holden Commodore VE Series II replaced the VE Series I. In 2013 the Holden Commodore VF succeeded the Holden Commodore VE. In 2015 the Holden Commodore VF Series II replaced the VF Series I.
The Holden Commodore typically had a right-hand drive configuration but the third and fourth generation Commodores were also produced with left-hand drive configuration for export mainly to the Middle East where they were sold as Chevrolet Lumina. The 2006 Commodore VE was also exported to North America where they were sold as Pontiac G8 for a short period only (2008-2009). The 2013 Commodore VF was also exported to North America where they were sold as Chevrolet SS.
The 2006 Holden Commodore VE Series I with left-hand drive configuration was the technical base for the Bitter Vero Sport.
