The Opel Senator was a big rear-wheel drive sedan built between 1978 and 1993. The Opel Senator was the successor of Opel's not so successful KAD (Kapitän, Admiral, Diplomat) range.

The first generation or Opel Senator A was built between 1978 and 1986 and used a lengthened Opel Rekord E platform. In 1982 The Opel Senator A received a facelift. The facelifted model was called Opel Senator A2. The pre-facelift model is often referred to as Opel Senator A1.

The Opel Senator A could optionally be delivered with a Ferguson four-wheel drive configuration.

The second generation or Opel Senator B was built between 1987 and 1993 and used a lengthened Opel Omega A platform. When the Opel Omega B was launched the Opel Senator B was discontinued.

The Opel Senator A1 was the technical base for the Bitter SC.
