In 1983 Erich Bitter saw the potential for a 4-door version of the SC Coupé. He could see the need for an exclusive alternative to the Mercedes and Jaguar saloons of the time and the opportunity to tap into the more voluminous executive class market. He believed that such a car would outsell the Coupé and be extremely popular in the States. Bitter displayed the silver prototype in 1984 before the 3.9 litre engine was available and fitted with a 3 litre engine and 5-speed manual box, at the Frankfurt and Birmingham Motor Shows of 1984. The car was ready for production in early 1985, but the financial pressures on the company meant that only 5 cars were built.
Erich Bitter's design streched the Senator's wheelbase by 15 cms (5.9 ins), raised the roofline by 2 cms (0.8 ins), added two doors, and took the interior further upmarket by adding birds eye maple wood fillets to the doors. The Sedan involved Maggiore making significant changes to the Coupé's body shell, with a new roof, extra doors, central door posts, longer sills, plus revisions to the metal around the front and rear screens. Mechanical changes meant revisions were needed to the propshaft, exhaust system, and the supply pipes running under the car.
