The 4-door variant of the Bitter Type 3 was planned for 1989. Initially Erich Bitter wanted to build the Type 3 Limousine or Type 4, as it was called then, on a 48 cm (17") lengthened Opel Omega A chassis. The car would then reach a lentgh of 5,17 m (16'10"). In 1988 he decided to use an unmodified chassis and the car reached a length of 4,62 m (15'5").
In 1989 the new car was presented on the Frankfurth Motor Show and was renamed to "Diplomat". The steel gray car on the show was a wooden rolling model without interior or running gear.
In 1991 when the facelifted Type 3 Cabriolet and the Bitter TASCO were presented on the Frankfurt Motor Show the Type 4/Diplomat was no longer there.
In 1992 the plans for the Type 3 Cabriolet were dropped permanently but Erich Bitter did not give up his plans for a 4-door limousine. In 1995 he would come back with a new interpretation of the Type 3 Limousine. One year later that would lead to the Bitter Berlina based on the Opel Omega B.
